CITY OF LIGAO – The Interinstitutional Working Group (IATF) granted the request of Albay officials for an extension of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until May 15 to further curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID- 19) in the province that has 33 confirmed cases until Friday (May 1).
In a Facebook post on Friday, Legazpi City Mayor Noel Rosal, quoting Secretary Harry Roque, said the IATF approved the request from the League of Mayors of Albay, the Legazpi city government unit and the provincial government, meaning Albay will undergo another 14 days of ECQ after being under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) for just one day. Albay was one of the areas in Luzon that was initially identified as downgraded to GCQ status as of May 1 after being under the Luzon ECQ since March.
However, Rosal said that the documents that order the extension of the ECQ have not yet been signed by President Rodrigo Duterte.
According to the extended ECQ, the liquor ban is still in effect across the province, social distancing must be strictly observed in public markets, and residents must follow market hours for their barangays.
