Fred has promised Man Utd fans that they will have a greater impact on the field after the arrival of Bruno Fernandes.
The Brazilian midfielder has only hit the back of the net three times since his own move to Old Trafford in 2018.
It took until February for Fred to record his name on the score sheet throughout this season, with his two punches in the Club Brugge’s Europa League sweep.
United’s productivity against the target has shown a marked improvement since Fernandes was added to its ranks in January.
When asked if he feels that Fernandes can increase his own score, Fred said MUTV : “I hope so, since it is always important to score goals”.
“I have been working on it and, with the arrival of Bruno, we have someone who gives us more freedom, given his quality with the ball at his feet.”
“So I look forward to attacking and scoring more goals and working hard on my completion to score more goals in one season. I am sure that with the arrival of Bruno more goals will come.”
The 27-year-old has enjoyed an impressive spell on United’s first team in the absence of Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba.
His form even led United legend Peter Schmeichel to name him as the Red Devils’ best player this season.
“My favorite role is where I’ve been playing,” added Fred. “As the second central midfielder, solidly defending but also moving forward and looking to score goals.”
“I think it is important for a central midfielder to have a good approach to play and finishing skills. The way I have been playing is the way I like to play and I feel really good in this position.”
However, Fred may have to consider working first to maintain his place on the team, before having great ideas on how to contribute to goals.
Nemanja Matic has also been brought in from the cold to help stabilize United’s midfield.
But with McTominay and Pogba now back in top form, along with the arrival of Fernandes, competition for places abounds at Old Trafford.
Coach Michael Carrick hinted that Fred and Matic’s places are threatened by the greater options available to United, and suggested that they could be used as part of a rotation policy.
“I think sometimes we have been forced to play and do good guys who have been in shape,” Carrick told United’s podcast. “When Nemanja and Fred have played, they have done very well, they have done very well as two and they complement and mix very well.”
“It’s about getting the right mix. Certain games are tailored to certain things, which is something for us as staff and Ole to decide what fits a certain game.”
“I think all of a sudden now with everyone in shape and Bruno joining the team we have a lovely variety to choose from.”
