MANILA, Philippines – The convicted former mayor of Laguna de Calauan, Antonio Sánchez, has died, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) announced on Saturday.

BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said that Sánchez was declared upon arrival when he was transferred to the New Bilibid Prison Hospital.

“Today around 7 am, PDL Antonio Sánchez was found unconscious in his cell. His cellmates took him to NBP Hospital and he was treated by medical personnel. It was declared DOA and subject to autopsy according to sudden death procedure, ”said Chaclag. INQUIRER.net in a text message.

Sánchez was sentenced to seven life sentences (up to 40 years in prison) for the rape and murder of the then University of the Philippines. – Los Banos student Eileen Sarmenta and the murder of her boyfriend Allan Gomez in 1993.
