MANILA, Philippines – The hot and dry season has arrived in the country as the cold season due to the northeast monsoon or Amihan has already ended.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) stated this Friday, as it prompted the public to prepare for the muggy temperatures in the coming days.
He said that people should stay hydrated and avoid strenuous activities that can cause dehydration and heat stress.
“The gradual change in wind direction from northeast to east in most of the country due to the formation of the High Pressure Area (HPA) over the Northwest Pacific Ocean means the end of the Northeast Monsoon and the beginning of the dry season and warmer temperatures, ”the meteorological office said in a statement.
“With this development, the daily weather across the country will gradually become warmer, although isolated thunderstorms are also likely to occur,” he added.
Pagasa also urged the public to use water resources wisely, especially as the dry season tends to lead to a shortage of water supplies across the country.
“The public is advised to take precautionary measures to minimize heat stress and optimize daily water use for personal and domestic consumption,” he added.
By this weekend, easterly winds will prevail over a large part of the Philippines, bringing generally fair conditions and hot to humid weather. However, Pagasa said the possibility of isolated and localized thunderstorms is still likely due to the moisture content of the easterly winds.
Additionally, Pagasa said that no weather disturbance is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility in the coming days.
In Metro Manila and Laoag, it was observed that temperatures would range between 24 and 33 degrees Celsius, while in Tuguegarao they will be between 23 and 33 degrees Celsius; 16 to 25 degrees Celsius in Baguio; 22 to 31 degrees Celsius in Tagaytay; and from 25 to 33 degrees Celsius in Legazpi and Puerto Princesa.
Similarly, Visayas and Mindanao can expect warm conditions this weekend with Cebu possibly feeling between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius; Iloyl, 26 to 32 degrees Celsius; Tacloban, 25 to 31 degrees Celsius; Zamboanga, from 23 to 34 degrees Celsius; Cagayan de Oro, from 23 to 32 degrees Celsius; and Davao, from 25 to 34 degrees Celsius.
Pagasa did not issue a gale warning for any part of the country’s waters, as the end of the northeast monsoon means sea conditions are likely to improve.
