Terrafirma is contemplating assigning its other 2021 PBA Rookie Draft picks to its 3×3 PBA team.
Dhon Reverente, Jay Javelosa, Immanuel Custodio and Terrence Tumalip were the players that the Dyip took after the first selection Joshua Munzon and not. 8th overall pick James Laput at the virtual draft event on March 14.
Munzon and Laput have officially joined the team after signing three-year contracts last week. The two signal a new beginning for the franchise after trading star guard CJ Pérez for the star-studded San Miguel Beer last January.
“Probably 3 × 3” wrote the team’s governor and PBA vice president, Bobby Rosales, in a short text message to Tiebreaker Times on Thursday afternoon.
All four have yet to receive formal offers, according to Rosales, but having them all signed up would mean fewer problems in terms of team building. Each team only needs six players in 3 × 3 PBA.
But there seems to be a little problem regarding Reverent’s status. The former MPBL standout may have to first acquire a special guest license from the Board of Games and Amusement, as an enlisted Army personnel.
Reverent, who is 6-foot-1, is one of the oldest players to be selected in this year’s draft at 31. Still, some have anticipated his arrival in the PBA after a strong season in the regional semi-pro league for Muntinlupa and Pasay. .
The Albay native was also called up to play for Marinerong Pilipino in the 2019 D-League Foundation Cup. There, he helped the Skippers secure a second place finish, the highest since entering the development ranks in 2017. .
However, Reverent is a member of the staff of the Philippine Navy. You must obtain a special guest license from the games and amusement board in order to play at the PBA.
NLEX first began the practice of assigning players who were not on the regular roster to 3×3. The Road Warriors recently ensured that those who are not part of their 15-man lineup will be part of their NL3X squad.
NLEX decided that given they have 21 players in their reserve following the arrival of Don Trollano, Maurice Shaw and Roi Sumang from a three-team trade with Blackwater and TNT days before the draft.
Other teams have yet to announce their moves for PBA 3 × 3, although Meralco and TNT have begun the process of acquiring talent for the midfield game by signing Jason Brickman and Jeremiah Gray, respectively.
