Golden State Warriors need Andrew Wiggins to find consistency

It was a heartwarming sight to see Andrew Wiggins earn 40 points in a meager victory for the Golden State Warriors. While this was a season record for Wiggins, it wasn’t the first time in his career that he inexplicably broke a dry spell by scoring more than 30 points seemingly out of nowhere.

Wiggins has always been inconsistent. There’s really no telling what kind of performance you’ll get from him on any given night. This is often the case with young players, but at this stage in his career, and playing for the Warriors, Wiggins will need to find consistency.

Andrew Wiggins’ 40-point blast against the Memphis Grizzlies was nice … but the Golden State Warriors need consistency from him.

Let’s give credit where it is due. It’s not easy coming off a stinging streak and Wiggins rose to the occasion with Stephen Curry, James Wiseman and Eric Paschall offside. He drilled six 3s and shot 14 of 24 (58 percent) overall on his way to securing a win for the Dubs. This came after a 21-game routine in which he shot just 33 percent from 3-point range.

Interestingly, this was not the first time a member of the Warriors scored 40 points after a troubling shooting streak. Kelly Oubre hit a career-best against Dallas and has been shooting 49/38/68 from the court ever since.

The Warriors expect this trend to continue for Wiggins. No, they don’t need me to score 40 points every night. They won’t even need it to get 20 most nights. However, the key is efficiency and creating extra shots every time you hit the ground.

Wiggins has scored more than 20 points 10 times this season. In those games, the Warriors are 8-2. In contrast, Golden State is just 3-10 when it scores 15 points or less, with an average margin of loss of 20.3 points.

It’s unclear how long Curry will be out, but Wiggins will be just as important when the MVP returns to the court. Wiggins is able to relieve Curry of the immense weight he carries on offense and it will take constant efforts on his part to help turn the tide this season.
