Voter registration hours shortened, satellite list suspended

MANILA, Philippines – The Elections Commission (Comelec) will shorten voter registration hours and suspend satellite registration due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

“From March 22, 2021 to April 4, 2021, all Elections Official’s Offices (OEO) nationwide will accept voter registration applications Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm” Comelec said in a statement Saturday night. .

However, the issuance of the voter certification will be until 5 pm, the electoral body added.

Comelec said that Fridays will be reserved for the disinfection of OEOs.

“However, in case the local government unit in question prescribes a disinfection day other than Friday, the OEO will also be closed to the public on that day, in addition to the disinfection day prescribed by COMELEC,” he said.

Previously, voter registration was conducted Tuesday through Saturday, including holidays, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Satellite registration suspended

According to Comelec, the satellite registration sites will also be closed until further notice.

“Conducting satellite registration in barangay rooms, nurseries, covered courts and other satellite offices across the country will also be suspended until further notice,” he said.

Comelec spokesman James Jiménez reminded the public that health and safety protocols will continue to be strictly enforced at all Comelec offices.
