Go Negosyo PRESIDENTIAL Advisor for Entrepreneurship and Founder Joey Concepción announced in a meeting with Ambica International Corporation and IP Biotech, the distributors of the Covid-19 vaccine manufactured by Bharat Biotech, an Indian biotechnology company that is developing a Covid-19 vaccine called Covaxin – that Go Negosyo and his office will help bring Covaxin here in the Philippines.
“The private sector purchases of AstraZeneca, Moderna and Novavax will be bolstered by these new vaccines coming from India, Covaxin. This vaccine is promising, as it was used by the Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and has recorded an efficacy of 81 percent of the interim results of its phase 3 trial. It is now only awaiting approval of the FDA, ”said Concepción.
This meeting was part of Concepción’s ongoing effort to secure more vaccine doses for the country through the “A Dose of Hope” program in partnership with various vaccine manufacturers and distributors amid the current global Covid-19 vaccine shortage. India is the largest vaccine manufacturer in the world right now and a partnership that would connect the country with India would be meaningful and a game changer.
“Once Covaxin is approved by the FDA and our negotiations bear fruit, we are hopeful that we will be able to offer it to our MSMEs that have not yet obtained their doses from previous vaccine manufacturers,” Concepción said.
With these developments, the Philippines is now in talks with the Indian manufacturer and distributors and is ready to negotiate between eight and 20 million doses. Concepción is working closely on the schedule and pricing of the Covaxin, looking forward to the possibility of it being delivered in the second quarter around May and at the best possible minimum price.
Present at the meeting were His Excellency Ambassador Shambhu Kumaran, President of Ambica International Corporation Kamal Abichandani, Vice President of Ambica International Corporation Deepu Bhatia, President of IP Biotech Enrique González, Chief Scientific Advisor of IP Biotech Doctor Noel Miranda, Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce (Phil) Inc. Rajan Uttamchandani, and A Dose Hope Program Director Josephine Romero.
The Indian Ambassador to the Philippines, Shambhu Kumaran, requested Concepción’s support as a recipient of the Padma Shri Awardee (2017), a prestigious award given by the Republic of India. Concepción is committed to ensuring this initiative is successful and Covaxin will be brought in and distributed here in the Philippines.
