Sorry, TnT. Cannot locate Ray Parks number at this time

CHICAGO – If Bobby Ray Parks Jr. uses Smart as his wireless provider, callers may soon want to get used to hearing this friendly message.

The subscriber cannot be contacted. Check the number and redial.

A bad and harsh connection has threatened to sever Parks and TNT’s once strong relationship.

That became apparent yesterday when, instead of talking and texting, both parties used social media as a means to communicate.

Parks lit the first fuse in midafternoon when he posted a message to his 110,000 Instagram followers saying that “I would apologize and not participate in this year’s PBA season for personal reasons.”

A supposedly “livid” MVP, owner of TNT, responded and used Facebook and Twitter as megaphones to question Parks’ whereabouts and the family excuse.

Ugly. Dirty.

Divorce?

TOO EARLY TO TELL IT.

Remember, money is the best equalizer, the only wild card that can forgive slights and forget grudges. And MVP, whose massive holdings put him in the King Abdullah category of wealthy, has a lot, a lot.

A reliable source told me that Parks met with TNT management accompanying an architect friend. The sale price was P600,000 per month.

A separate source revealed that Group MVP has an “unlimited supply” to keep the fickle and sweet shooting guard who averaged 22.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists in the Philippine Cup bubble at Clark.

So if cash is not an item for TNT, what more does Bobby want?

Burner phones? Free Wi-Fi for life? PLDT Stocks?

Maybe you just want a certain bottle of brown beer or a tall glass of a specific gin, who knows?

I’m a huge fan of his, I’m eager to support whatever ending Parks has in mind, but I can’t go with him if this is the medium of his choice.

Relationships end. That is a fact of life. But you don’t walk out the door and drop a stink bomb whose unholy stench will follow you to your next stop. Show good grace, not bad manners.

As for TNT, it’s time to wash your hands and socially distance yourself from Parks as much as possible. For good.

We recently saw this PBA movie, an unfortunate drama starring Vic Manuel and Greg Slaughter. Trying to keep a player unhappy is a trivial and toxic activity.

Don’t let the whims of one man take over the common interest of 11 others who just want to play together and happily pull the same rope.

Exchange parks and acquire comparable assets. Like life itself, the PBA lectures are too short. You can’t waste a minute waiting for a guy who doesn’t want to be there.

Often times, it is better for a team to lose without the unhappy star who wins with it.
