MANILA – The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted an emergency use authorization for China’s Sinovac Biotech COVID-19 vaccine, paving the way for delivery to the Philippines, an official said Monday.

China had required the US before delivering 600,000 donated doses of Sinovac to the Philippines, Malacañang said previously.

The country’s drug regulator granted this authorization to Sinovac “after a thorough and rigorous review of the published and unpublished data currently available,” FDA Director General Eric Domingo said in a public briefing.

The Philippine FDA had previously granted the USA to Pfizer and AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccines.

More than 561,000 coronavirus infections have been confirmed in the country, as of Sunday, including 26,238 active cases.
