Jalen Green and Ignite suffer first loss in G League

Ignite received its first loss in the G League, bowing to Erie in an 87-127 win, Thursday morning (Manila time) at AdventHealth Arena.

Coming off two straight 20-point games, Jalen Green was limited to just 13 points on 6-of-15 shooting with four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block. He had minus 37 in the game.

With the young team’s clubs were Jonathan Kuminga and Daishen Nix.

Kuminga scored 21 points and added the 10 best boards of his career, and Nix scored 13 points and 11 boards off the bench. Jalen Green also finished with 13 points along with four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Erie jumped to a 21-point lead in the first quarter, capitalizing on five turnovers and hitting five 3-pointers as Ignite shot 0-of-7 from three-point range. The Bayhawks led 35-16 after the first 12 minutes and continued their charge the rest of the half to earn a 66-37 cushion.

The Bayhawks extended their lead to 96-60 after the third, and Kuminga remained Ignite’s only player in double figures until Nix and Green posted their best 12 minutes of action in the fourth quarter.

Naji Marshall led the Bayhawks with 21 points as one of only six Erie players to score in double figures. Erie, the best offensive team in the G League, shot 53.8 percent from the floor and scored 36 points from Ignite’s 20 turnovers.

Ignite looks to bounce back in its second straight game, on Friday at 8:00 am against the Westchester Knicks.
