MANILA – The Supreme Court, which acts as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal, unanimously dismissed the electoral protest of the defeated candidate Bongbong Marcos against Vice President Leni Robredo, a source familiar with the ruling said Tuesday.
The former senator, in the third cause of action in his electoral protest, affirmed that the elections in Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur and Basilan were tinged with terrorism, intimidation, harassment of voters and pre-shadowing of ballots.
He claimed that he could still overcome Robredo’s advantage of 263,473 votes because he could supposedly lose 497,985 votes if the results of the elections in the 3 Mindanao provinces were annulled.
Robredo said that the PET Rules were clear that not showing a substantial recovery after the initial count should lead to the dismissal of the electoral protest.
In October 2019, the PET released the results of the initial count in the 3 pilot provinces of Camarines Sur, Negros Oriental and Iloilo as part of Marcos’ second cause of action.
