MANILA, Philippines – In preparation for the upcoming elections on May 9, 2022, the Elections Commission (Comelec) has released the calendar for the submission of Certificates of Candidacy (COC), which was set for October 1-8. .

Under Comelec Resolution No. 10695, which was promulgated on Wednesday but published on the commission’s official website on Saturday, the electoral body said that COCs could run from October 1-8, including Saturday and Sunday.

The official election period was established from January 9, 2022 to June 8, 2022, and the campaign period for national offices was established from February 8, 2022 to May 7, 2022. National offices include president, vice president and senators. and groups of party lists.

On the other hand, the campaign period for local offices was set from March 25, 2022 to May 7, 2022. Local offices include members of the House of Representatives, regional, provincial, municipal and municipal officials.

However, the campaigns are prohibited on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, April 14 and 15, 2022, respectively.

Comelec has also listed prohibited activities, including a ban on weapons throughout the election period and a ban on alcoholic beverages from May 8, 2022, to May 9, 2022.

Campaigning on the eve of Election Day up to Election Day is also prohibited.

It is also prohibited to give or accept transportation, food or drink or things of value for free; solicit votes or carry out propaganda for or against a candidate or any political party at the polling place or within 30 meters of it; opening of booths or polls within a 30 m radius from the polling place; and the celebration of fairs, cockfights, boxing, horse races or any other similar sport.

Comelec has also scheduled absentee voting abroad from April 10, 2022 to May 9, 2022. Voters registered abroad can cast their vote at Philippine embassies, consulates and other foreign positions.

On Saturday, Comelec also set the calendar for new foreign voters.

Comelec said that Filipinos who are expected to be abroad from April 10, 2021 to May 9, 2022, could register as voters abroad. The deadline to submit applications as overseas voters is September 30.

Comelec added that those who are at least 18 years old by election day, but who will not be registered in the Philippines to vote during the one-month period before the 2022 elections, are eligible to vote abroad.
