KUALA LUMPUR, Feb.11 (Xinhua) – Malaysia’s men’s basketball team withdrew from the qualifying rounds of the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 to be held later this month due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the association reported today. Basketball Association of Malaysia (MABA).
After consultation with the National Sports Council (NSC), the MABA will adhere to the NSC’s recommendations not to send a team to the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers, the MABA said in a statement.
“This is due to the significant increase in COVID-19 outbreaks in the country, and the government has declared a Movement Control Order (MCO) across Malaysia from January 13 to February 18, 2021.” he said, adding that Always give priority to the safety and health of players and team officials.
