Magnitude 5.0 earthquake shakes Occidental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines – A 5.0 magnitude earthquake shook the waters off Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The earthquake occurred at 7:24 am, 58 kilometers southwest of the city of San José.

The tremor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of focus of 17 kilometers.

Phivolcs said the earthquake was felt in other areas at various intensities:

Instrumental Intensity III – San José, Occidental Mindoro

Instrumental intensity II – Roxas, Oriental Mindoro; Sebaste, Ancient

Instrumental intensity I – Jamindan, Capiz

While no damage was expected from the earthquake, state seismologists warned residents that aftershocks could occur.
