A Taft tower has passed away.
Former foreign student-athlete from the College of Saint Benilde Clement Leutcheu (April 19, 1995 – February 6, 2021) died of cardiac arrest on Saturday morning.
He was only 25 years old.
Leutcheu, a 6-foot-7 Senegalese, had been the Blazers’ rock in the National Collegiate Athletic Association from the 92-95 season.
Although Saint Benilde never made the Final Four during his time there, he was one of the leaders of the team, always competing hard.
“He may not be the best athlete, but he has the purest heart. The only thing that matters to him is the world, the people, especially those around him, and that he be better every day. “ said Blazers head coach TY Tang as he paid tribute to his great man.
“He carries that positivity and shares it with everyone around him.”
In his senior year, Leutcheu averaged 6.8 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.
During the 95 season, the league honored Leutcheu and the final group of foreign student-athletes who will compete in the league during its awards ceremony.
Leutcheu had just finished her degree at Saint Benilde last year.
Leutcheu is survived by his family in Cameroon.
