Yungblud stopped by Radio Virgin France studios to hear a simple three-song set. Accompanied by an acoustic guitarist, the chart-topping artist performed songs from his latest album, Strange!, as well as a captivating cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s global sensation, “Driver’s License.”
The British artist did justice to Rodrigo’s viral debut, and then a few, delivering an emotionally charged rendition of the soulful ballad, which has smashed numerous streaming logs and charts since its launch in January.
In addition to the cover art, Yungblud also showed off his vocal skills with impressive performances of “Mars” and “Cotton Candy”, both of which appear on his second best-selling album.
Most recently, the artist released a dramatic music video for his song “Acting Like That,” with his frequent collaborators and friends, Machine Gun Kelly and Travis Barker. The image shows the three rockers in the middle of a zombie invasion.
While the video was shot separately in the respective artists’ homes in Los Angeles and London, the energy of the video remains impeccably cohesive. “This song is a direct representation of what happens when me, MGK and Travis get into a room together, a crazy buildup of electricity and energy,” Yungblud explained in a previous statement. “We couldn’t be together right now, so instead of overlaying one of us in a strange green screen video, we did a zombie apocalypse.”
Strange!, which debuted at No.1 in the UK in late 2020, also earned high marks from critics. Giving the record a perfect score, the NME stated, “Yungblud never seemed more inspiring or vital as he proves to be one of the biggest rock stars.” The Telegraph, meanwhile, praised that “Strange! it is [Yungblud’s] the crunchiest, most streamlined work to date, packed with catchy worm hooks and meaty choruses. ” All the music He called it “an energetic breath of fresh air that does not sacrifice the heart or a message of hope and support.”
