MANILA, Philippines – An additional 1,658 new Covid-19 patients registered on Monday brought the total active cases nationwide to 28,891, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
The DOH’s Covid-19 bulletin also showed 27 more recovered from the disease, bringing the number of recovered patients to 487,574, while another 58 did not survive, raising the country’s death toll to 10,807.
In total, the Philippines now has 527,272 cases of Covid-19, a respiratory illness caused by SARS-CoV-2, the new strain of coronavirus that originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan in Hubei province.
Most patients with active infections or 88.5 percent experienced only mild symptoms, according to the DOH, while 5.3 percent were asymptomatic. Meanwhile, 2.7 percent of active cases manifested severe symptoms, while 3.6 percent were in critical condition, DOH added.
The health agency also said 1,046 of the new cases reported on Monday came from 23,521 Covid-19 tests conducted on Sunday, January 31.
