Bontoc, mayor of the mountain province tests positive for COVID-19

BAGUIO CITY – Mayor Franklin Odsey of Bontoc, Mountain Province, tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and is currently in isolation.

Odsey announced her condition in a statement Saturday night, adding that she was not experiencing symptoms of the viral illness.

He said he is being monitored by doctors at his home, where he is in quarantine after his COVID-19 test on January 15 came back positive.

At least 12 people in Bontoc have been infected by the new variant of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7), which is said to be more contagious.

The infections have forced officials to impose blockades in affected Bontoc villages.
