WASHINGTON – President Joe Biden said Friday that the death toll from Covid-19 in the United States, the country hardest hit by the world’s pandemic, is expected to exceed 600,000.
“The virus is increasing. We are 400,000 dead, it is expected to reach more than 600,000, “he said at a press conference, giving his highest estimate so far for the number of eventual deaths from the outbreak in the United States.
“Families are hungry. People are at risk of being evicted. Job losses are on the rise again. We have to act, ”Biden said, before signing executive orders targeting the food crisis that affects millions of Americans.
Biden spoke as the United States surpassed 410,000 coronavirus deaths, with 24.6 million confirmed infections since the outbreak began.
