Singapore Art Week 2021 kicks off as a hybrid event

MANILA – Singapore Art Week (SAW) will be online and offline this year as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

A joint initiative of the National Arts Council, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Singapore Economic Development Board, SAW 2021 started on Friday, January 22, and will run until January 30.

Online visitors can explore virtual exhibits, watch live broadcasts, and appreciate more than 40 Singapore-based projects.

SAW 2021 will also host more than 100 art events in physical and digital spaces, allowing audiences around the world to experience the art of Southeast Asia.

“As a hybrid event, SAW 2021 continues to reflect the ever-evolving vibrant arts scene in Singapore, featuring a variety of quality visual arts projects, discussions and exhibits for local and international audiences to enjoy,” Ruby Liu, Area Director of STB for the Philippines said in a statement.

“We invite Filipinos to reinvent their appreciation and love for art by participating in our must-see events, as art moves into the digital space,” he added.

Filipino interdisciplinary artist Pow Martinez appears in SEA Focus 2021, an exhibition of contemporary fine arts from the region.

Those with smartphones can try Instagram’s augmented reality filter “Wild Critters” or immerse themselves in the art installation “Inner Like the OutAR” that features digital environments.
