Conor McGregor insists he will win a world boxing title and believes a fight against Manny Pacquiao will happen this year.

The UFC superstar returns to mixed martial arts action on January 24 in a rematch with Dustin Poirier, whom he knocked out in a groundbreaking performance in 2014.

McGregor lost his boxing debut in an extravaganza of a fight against Floyd Mayweather three years later, but hopes to return to the ring later in 2021.

“I know the talks are intensifying to [a fight] this year, “said the Irishman to his personal website Mac’s life about Pacquiao.

“I’m excited for a Manny Pacquiao fight and it looks like it will happen this year. At what point this year? I’m not sure.

“We will have to have good discussions with Dana White and the UFC and see where it goes.

“I am open to everything, ready for everything.

“I will certainly achieve a world boxing title before the day is out. And I would be excited to do it against Emmanuel Pacquiao.”

Boxing legend Pacquiao currently holds the WBA welterweight championship; Now 42, he has held a world title in each of the last four decades.

Pacquiao lost the richest fight of all time to Mayweather six years ago.

He hasn’t fought since Keith Thurman’s undefeated streak ended in July 2019, but he has recently expressed interest in meeting McGregor under the rules of MMA.
