MANILA, Philippines – Close contacts of the Filipino Overseas Worker (OFW) who tested positive for the UK’s newer and more infectious COVID-19 variant upon arrival in Hong Kong tested negative for the most infectious variant, the Undersecretary of Health Maria Rosario Vergeire.
In a virtual press conference, Vergeire said that “the contacts tested positive for PCR (polymerase chain reaction), but most had CT values> 30, interpreted as detected with low viral load.”
“In whole genome sequencing, the UK variant WAS NOT DETECTED between the NCR and Cagayan contacts,” he said.
“However, given their exposure, we prioritize their initial results which showed that all cases were positive,” Vergeire added.
He also said that close contacts remain under strict quarantine and are currently under close surveillance.
