MANILA, Philippines – The Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Gen. Debold Sinas, ordered a separate investigation into possible mistakes made by Makati City police officers in handling the case of the death of Christine Angelica Dacera, 23-year-old flight attendant.

Sinas said he had ordered the PNP’s Directorate for Investigation and Management of Detectives to carry out the investigation.

“I have directed the Directorate of Investigation and Detective Management to immediately carry out a separate investigation and to recommend to us by January 13 its findings on any liability of the Makati police officers involved in the investigation into course of the Dacera case, “he told a news conference at Camp Crame.

He also ordered the activation of the Dacera Special Investigation Task Force, which will be led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

The investigation, however, will continue to be supervised by Brig. General Vicente Danao Jr., regional director of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCPPO), according to Sinas.

In the same briefing, Danao said investigators are still collecting pieces of evidence to use in the investigation.

“As of now, we are still collecting evidence, especially statements from potential key witnesses, and we are still awaiting the results of the forensic science that the Crime Lab conducts,” he said.

“All of these will be duly presented to the prosecutor during the preliminary investigation,” he added.

Dacera’s body was found in a bathtub at a hotel in Makati City on January 1 after attending a New Years Eve party. Her family said she was sexually abused before her death.

Makati City Police previously filed a provisional rape charge with homicide against 11 men in Dacera’s death with the prosecutor’s office, but the prosecutor referred the case to the police for further investigation.
