MANILA, Philippines – A total of P1,584,850 has been provided in assistance to families affected by floods and landslides in the Western Visayas and Bicol regions due to the end of a frontal system, Malacañang said Sunday.

In a statement, presidential spokesman Harry Roque said the assistance was provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, local government units and private partners.

Thousands of people in the western Visayas and Bicol regions are forced to flee their homes when the tail of a frontal system hits their areas with incessant rains causing flooding. This came after the seasonal weather system submerged cities in those regions in floods earlier this month.

Citing data from the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC), Roque reported that a total of nine families are within the evacuation centers in Camarines Sur, while a total of 4,207 families are within the centers. of evacuation in Negros Occidental.

Some 1,100 residents have been rescued from flooded barangays in Talisay City and Victorias City in Negros Occidental by authorities, the Palace official added.
