MANILA, Philippines – Two police officers were killed in a fire that affected the Logistics Support Service (LSS) complex at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

The PNP Public Information Office (PNP-PIO) said Friday that P / Master Sgt. Amado Ormillon Jr. of the Headquarters Support Service and P / Staff Sgt. Nichol Jamosmos, of the Special Action Force, died while responding to the fire in the LSS area early Friday morning.

Ormillon is said to have been electrocuted while Jamosmos died of suffocation.

Initial reports from LSS said Deputy Chief of Transportation Management Division P / Lt. Col. Daniel Vinluan heard a loud explosion and saw the fire from behind an armored vehicle parked in the complex’s vehicle shed.

“In the initial report, the fire started around 2:00 am at the TMD, LSS Compound,” PNP-PIO said.

“He (Vinluan) then alerted the duty officer to call the Camp Crame Base fire station, while other LSS personnel on duty responded immediately to douse the fire using (extinguisher) while they waited for the fire trucks, “he added.

SAF P / Lt. Victororioso Yulde and P / Staff Sgt. Jesús Apil from the Directorate of Personnel and Records Management were injured in the incident. The two, including the other two wounded, were taken to the PNP General Hospital inside Camp Crame for treatment.

PNP-PIO said PNP chief General Debold Sinas has already ordered a “full investigation of the incident,” which also affected the facilities of LSS’s Transportation Maintenance Division. Meanwhile, LSS is conducting a damage assessment of the incident.

“The PNP Chief instructed Police Brigadier General Arthur Bisnar, Director of the Headquarters Support Service (HSS) to conduct more stringent periodic fire safety inspections of the PNP facilities and buildings at Camp Crame, especially older structures made of light and combustible materials that can be considered fire hazards, ”added PNP-PIO.
