Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 7) – Members of the national boxing, taekwondo and karate teams will be the first to enter the ‘bubble’ of training for Filipino athletes in Calamba, Laguna.
The director of national training for the Philippine Sports Institute, Marc Velasco, said Thursday that the national boxers will arrive at the Calamba “bubble” on January 15. The taekwondo team will follow on January 16 and the karatekas on January 17.
About 46 national athletes and coaches attended an orientation on the safety protocols to be implemented within the Inspire Sports Academy on Wednesday. The guidelines were developed by the Athlete Medical Scientific Services Unit of the Philippine Sports Commission.
“I just want to reiterate that your safety is paramount in this bubble training. I wish you all the best for your qualifiers so that we can bring more glory to Philippine sport, ”said Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games mission chef Nonong Araneta.

MSAS Unit Chief Dr. Randy Molo said that members of the national team will undergo a series of hyssop tests and encouraged them to restrict movement 14 days before entering the ‘bubble’ and restrict the interactions seven days after entering the training facility.
“The athletes will undergo a series of RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) tests. Before entering, entering and various tests during bubble training, ”said Molo.
The Interagency Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases approved last December 15 the resumption of training for national athletes in a “bubble” configuration. The move was made in anticipation of national athletes competing for a place in the Tokyo Olympics postponed by the coronavirus to be held in July.
Nesthy Petecio, 2019 AIBA Women’s World Featherweight Champion, is among the female boxers expected to enter the Calamba ‘bubble’ alongside male pugs James Palicte and Rio 2016 Olympic qualifier Rogen Ladon .
In taekwondo, Rio 2016 Olympic Games veteran Kirstie Alora, Pauline López and Samuel Morrison are among those who will try their luck to play in the Olympic Games. Among karatekas, 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Jamie Lim leads those who will train in Calamba.
So far, only four Filipinos have secured places at the Tokyo Olympics. It is about the pole vault EJ Obiena, the gymnast Carlos Yulo and the boxers Irish Magno and Eumir Marcial.
