Following the brand’s association with Pokémon GO, Gucci has once again shifted its focus to the Japanese franchise. The Italian fashion brand has collaborated with Doraemon to launch the “Doraemon Capsule Collection” in celebration of Chinese New Year 2021.
The special assortment celebrates the title character from Fujiko Fujio’s beloved manga and anime series, which was initially revealed as part of Gucci’s Cruise 2021 collection. Doraemon is a cat-shaped robot that came from the 22nd century to help a boy, Nobita, with the secret gadgets from his four-dimensional bag, reads the official website of the brand.
Doraemon x Gucci
With more than 50 items, the capsule clothing range includes coats, jackets, sweatpants, shorts, bags and shoes. Each item of clothing and accessory features the raised Gucci classic GG monogram pattern with a variety of contrasting Doraemon accents, showcasing the jolly figure sleeping, playing, and goofing around.
In addition to the rudimentary fusion, Gucci has implemented a signature design on each item, including its signature green / red striped accent that runs down the sleeves, hems, and over bags and purses. The Doraemon collection also includes footwear and accessories such as Rhyton and Ace sneakers, an iPhone case and a 40mm diver’s watch, all adorned with even larger illustrations of the ever-jovial Doraemon.
Extensive and expensive
The collection is quite extensive and each item is priced exclusively, as you would expect. Due to their vivacity, various fabrics have been used in the making of these items. There are silk bowling shirts and shorts, wool sweaters, and even sneakers with trendy red pants.
The entire Doraemon x Gucci capsule collection is priced between £ 140 and £ 3,960 GBP (roughly $ 189 and $ 5,351 USD). The assortment is currently available at the Gucci online store and at select Gucci locations. It will be released widely on January 12, a month before the Chinese New Year begins.
