MANILA – The city of Makati will provide free COVID-19 vaccines for all of its residents, its mayor said Monday.
“This is our number one priority for 2021. I want each and every person in Makatizen to receive the two doses of the coronavirus vaccine for free to protect them and their families against the virus,” said the Mayor of Makatizen. Makati, Abby Binay, in a statement.
The city government has allocated P1 billion for its COVID-19 vaccination program, he noted. City officials are also coordinating with vaccine czar Carlito Gálvez Jr. to procure the vaccine, he added.
Binay said she would ask the city council to approve a supplemental budget as soon as they get the green light from the country’s pandemic task force.
“We will exhaust all means to obtain the much-needed vaccines in advance and vaccinate all the citizens of Makat. The city will also help businesses and businesses that wish to purchase vaccines for their employees and workers. Our goal is 100 percent vaccination in Makati, ”he said.
Since the pandemic began, the city of Makati has recorded 10,124 coronavirus infections, of which 375 deaths were related to the virus.
It currently has 290 active cases, while 9,459 people have recovered from the disease, data from the city government showed as of Jan.2.
