ILIGAN CITY – Police have labeled five neighbors as persons of concern for the death of a 12-year-old girl hit by a stray bullet during the New Year’s Eve party in Barangay Poblacion, Sapad, Lanao del Norte city.
Sapad Police Chief Lt. Elric Palanas said the five neighbors were subjected to paraffin and ballistics tests on Saturday to find out which one of them had fired a gun at 12 a.m. on January 1.
“They are (still) persons of interest, not suspects, yet, because we are still validating,” Palanas said. “They are labeled (because) according to our investigation and intelligence gathering, they were together at the time within a 70 to 100 meter radius from where the girl fell to the ground,” Palanas said.
He said police would also match the firearms of the five people and the .45 caliber pistol bullet that took the girl’s head off.
The girl, Suzette Manamparan, suddenly fell to the ground while playing with her cousins in front of her house to celebrate the New Year.
Her mother, Emilyn, said that Suzette was coming from church and was about to play with her cousins when she fell. The children’s parents took her to Kapatagan Provincial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Emilyn asked whoever shot the gun that killed her daughter to surrender to the police and do her justice.
