MANILA, Philippines – Aspiring Olympian Margielyn Didal has been named one of the nominees for Asian Skater of the Year at the 2020 Asia Skateboarding Awards.
Didal, a gold medalist at the Asian and Southeast Asian Games, shared the news on his Instagram account.
“Thank you all,” Didal wrote on his Instagram post. “Let’s go and find him.”
Didal, 21, has already amassed an impressive résumé with three gold medals from the Asian Games and SEA Games, a listing in TIME magazine’s 25 Most Influential Teens of 2018, and a semi-final appearance in Street League Skateboarding.
She is also the first Filipina to compete in the X Games.
Didal’s influence also led Cebu City, his hometown, to embrace skateboarding as a sport and as a viable career for future athletes.
