TWO Communist New People’s Army (NPA) terrorists have surrendered under pressure from an ongoing military offensive against them in Sultan Kudarat, officials announced on Saturday, January 2, 2021.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., commander of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), identified the two NPA deliverables as Jonathan Saliling aka Ka Jonathan and aka Ka Atan, and Michael Lugko aka Ka Umpak and Ka Michael, both members of East Daguma Front, Daguma Sub-regional Command, Far South Mindanao Region under Arthuro Arsigan aka Ka Macmac.
Vinluan said they surrendered around 9pm Friday to the 7th Infantry Battalion (IB) in the former capital in Kalawag 2 village, Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.
Vinluan said they handed over two Garand rifles that became M-14 rifles.
He said that Saliling revealed during initial questioning that they decided to surrender as they are hungry and tired of hiding due to successive military operations and air strikes.
He said Lugko feared dying in armed clashes with government forces.
Lieutenant Colonel Romel Valencia, the 7IB commander, said the two pledged allegiance to the constitution and denounced the NPA communist terrorists.
They will be enrolled in the government’s reintegration program to ensure that they will not be drawn into the culture of violence. (SunStar Zamboanga)
