A Kuwaiti criminal court on Wednesday handed down a death verdict by hanging a Kuwaiti woman who tortured a Filipino domestic worker, Jeanelyn Padernal Villavende, to death out of jealousy.
Her husband, instead, was sentenced to four years in prison for covering up and failing to report the crime.
Principal Attorney at the Philippine Embassy, Atty. Sheikha Fawzia Al-Sabah said that today’s court ruling was fair and complied with the law and Sharia. The Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait, Mohd Noordin Pendosina Lomondot, thanked Sheikha Fawzia and the Kuwaiti government for the ruling.
Villavende passed away on December 28, 2019 at the hands of his employer.
His embalming certificate stated that he died due to “acute heart and respiratory failure as a result of (sic) shock and multiple injuries to the vascular nervous system.”
