The government may also ban flights from the United States once reports that the coronavirus variant had been detected there are officially confirmed, the Health Department said.
The Philippines has banned travel from 20 countries where cases of the coronavirus variant have been reported.
On Tuesday, Colorado Governor Jared Polis announced that a man in Denver tested positive for the B1.1.17 variant of the virus that was first discovered in the UK.
The man had no history of travel outside the United States.
Undersecretary of Health Maria Rosario Vergeire said they will wait for the United States to officially notify the International Health Regulation body of the World Health Organization or an official announcement from the US government before the Philippines updates its list of travel bans.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd said that the list of travel bans can be expanded once there are confirmed cases of the virus variant in other countries.
“Once there are countries reporting on the UK variant, we will expand on this,” Duque said.
