The survey showed that 91 percent of Filipinos were hopeful, while 7 percent said they were afraid, 3 points higher than the 4 percent recorded last year.

The SWS noted that 91 percent is lower than the 96 percent recorded in 2018. It is the lowest since the 89 percent recorded in 2009.

New Year’s expectation among non-poor families at the poverty line was 94 and 93 percent, respectively.

Compared to the end of 2019, New Year’s expectation increased by 3 points in Mindanao, from 90 to 93 percent.

It dropped in Balance Luzon by 7 percent, from 99 percent in 2019 to 92 percent in 2020; 6 points in Metro Manila, from 96 to 90 percent; and 9 points in Visayas, from 97 to 88 percent.

The survey was conducted from November 21 to 25 through face-to-face interviews.
