MANILA, Philippines – The Commissioner of the Bureau of Immigration (BI), Jaime Morente, said on Sunday that they will accelerate the implementation of the rules and regulations for Executive Order No. 122 on strengthening border control through the adoption and implementation of the System of Advance Passenger Information (APIS).
APIS is an electronic communications system that collects the biographical data of passengers or crew that is transmitted to the BI prior to arrival and allows an early investigation into the admissibility of arriving foreigners.
Initially, the BI was given 60 days to complete the TIR but given the need to thoroughly examine the arrival of passengers due to the new COVID-19 strain, the Secretary of Justice, Menardo Guevarra, emphasized the need for its immediate implementation.
“The API system is very timely, since in addition to protecting the country from foreigners with derogatory records, it would allow us to deny boarding of passengers who have a history of travel to the United Kingdom in the last 14 days, instead of having to detect them upon arriving in the country, ”Morente said.
BI is currently implementing a strict 100% passport inspection to determine the travel history of arriving passengers in the last 14 days.
