MANILA, Philippines – Scattered to widespread rains will be experienced in eastern Luzon and the Calabarzon region (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), as the country continues to be affected by the effects of two low pressure areas (LPA ) and the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” the state meteorological bureau said on Sunday.
Meteorological updates from the Philippines Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) through Sunday afternoon said the two LPAs are still being monitored, one located 355 kilometers west of Cuyo in Palawan and another 80 kilometers east of Infanta, Quezón.
The cloud bands brought by these LPAs, along with the amihan, will cause light to moderate rainfall over the Cagayan Valley, parts of Central Luzon, especially Aurora, and areas of Rizal and Quezon.
“Our compatriots are wary of potential floods and landslides and hopefully their local government units and disaster risk reduction managers have already coordinated them to take disaster preparedness and mitigation measures,” said the climate specialist Chris Pérez said.
(We urge people to be prepared for potential floods and landslides and hopefully they have coordinated with their respective local government units and disaster risk reduction managers for disaster preparedness and mitigation measures.)
Earlier, the Cagayan provincial government showed photos of roads that were again flooded by the rain thrown by the three weather systems.

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila and eastern Visayas, can also see cloudy skies and occasional rain due to prevailing weather systems.
The rest of Visayas and Mindanao can expect good weather, but Pagasa does not rule out the possibility of isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the afternoons and nights.
More areas are expected to be affected by LPAs on Monday, and the Ilocos Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region will also see rains at the beginning of the week.
Temperatures in Tuguegarao will remain low due to the rains and the monsoon, ranging between 23 and 28 degrees Celsius. In Baguio it would be around 15-24 degrees, 24-31 degrees in Laoag, Puerto Princesa, and Legazpi, and 25-31 degrees in Metro Manila.
In the south, temperatures can range from 25 to 32 degrees Celsius in Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban; while it would be a bit warmer in Davao and Zamboanga at 25 to 33 degrees.
A gale warning has also been raised on the northern coastlines of Luzon, which includes the waters of the provinces of Ilocos, Batanes, Cagayán, Islas Babuyán and Isabela; plus Quirino, Aurora and the coasts of General Nakar, Polillio Islands and North and East Catanduanes.
Fishermen are discouraged from sailing in these areas as sea conditions can be difficult or very rough for the next several hours.
