MANILA – The mother and her son, who were killed by a policeman in the town of Paniqui, Tarlac, after an altercation over an improvised cannon, were buried on Sunday.

Hundreds of people joined the funeral procession for Sonia, 55, and Frank Anthony Gregorio, 25, who were shot and killed a week ago by their neighbor, Police Sgt. Jonel Nuezca.

The two were buried in the Paniqui Garden of Angels Memorial Park.

In a video of the murder that made the rounds on social media, Sonia could be seen pacifying while hugging her son Frank, both unarmed, in an attempt to stop an encounter with the police.

Nuezca, who is assigned to the Parañaque city police crime lab, is already in custody while facing criminal charges of murder and administrative cases for the murder of the Gregorio family.

In 2019, 2 cases of serious misdemeanors for homicide were presented against him, but they were dismissed “for lack of substantial evidence.”

The last time he received a demotion for an alleged extortion incident in 2014.
