MANILA, Philippines —A 5.3 magnitude earthquake struck Davao Occidental and some areas in the Soccsksargen region on Friday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
According to the initial earthquake bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake originated 95 kilometers (kms) southeast of Sarangani, Davao Occidental at 10 am.
State seismologists said it was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 111 km.
The earthquake was felt as Intensity II in Alabel, Sarangani and Intensity I in Kiamba, Sarangani, Koronadal City and General Santos City.
State seismologists have warned that earthquake aftershocks are expected.
Previously, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake also struck several areas of Luzon on Christmas morning.
