If there’s still a chance the Chicago Bulls can get superstar guard James Harden from the Houston Rockets, should they try to?
It’s a commonly discussed topic of late that fans on the NBA landscape can’t seem to escape at the start of the 2020-21 regular season; on what’s going on with the Houston Rockets and superstar guard James Harden. And you would have to imagine with all that is happening with Harden of late that teams like the Brooklyn Nets and Miami Heat, unsurprisingly, came out of trade negotiations to get him out of the Rockets. That could bring teams like the Chicago Bulls, New York Knicks and Golden State Warriors to the table now with the Rockets.
Granted, any mention of a team like the Bulls and / or Knicks in the commercial speculation about Harden and the Rockets is hypothetical at this point.
Although ESPN’s Mike Greenberg discussed the possibility of five landing spots in a Harden trade earlier this month. And one of those possible landing spots was the Warriors.
Plus, with all the trouble the Rockets and Harden are going through right now, it’s hard to see a clean trade emerge in the near future. According to a report by ESPN’s Tim Bontemps on the night of December 23, everything that is happening with the Rockets right now has a lot to do with Harden’s volatility.
He was seen coming out without a mask last week, in violation of NBA COVID-19 protocols, resulting in a $ 50,000 fine. And the Rockets-Oklahoma City Thunder game originally scheduled for Dec. 23 had to be postponed as Houston didn’t have enough players available to start the game.
It is important to note that Harden’s trade rumors are still very active at this time. Although this part of ESPN’s Dec. 23 Bontemps report is very remarkable.
When asked if Harden’s behavior would be a red flag in negotiating for the former MVP, team executives told ESPN they thought he was selfish and reckless, but would not avoid a deal.
There is apparently still real business value for Harden if the Rockets decide to trade it in the near future. But perhaps this is a situation where the Bulls could buy him little early in the 2020-21 regular season.
With all of that in mind, here’s a look at three possible early-season trades the Bulls could attempt to offer the Rockets for Harden.
