Philippine Airlines suspends Manila-London flights
Manila, Philippines – The flag carrier Philippine Airlines has announced the suspension of its flights to and from London from 24 December 2020 until the end of February 2021 in compliance with the government directive to restrict inbound travel from the UK.
The Inter-Agency Working Group for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-MEID) previously issued a resolution banning flights from the UK from December 24 to December 31 over concerns of a new strain of coronavirus.
Passengers on canceled flights can rebook on the next available flights without any change-of-booking service fees being applied.
Passengers can also refund the cost of their ticket with waiver of refund service fees.
They can also choose to convert their ticket into a travel voucher for future use.
“We are monitoring the situation in the UK. While we keep a close eye on this evolving situation, it is in everyone’s best interest to suspend flights en route, ”PAL said.
“Appropriate announcements will be made as developments unfold,” he added.
PAL said it supports all measures that seek to curb any potential increase in COVID-19 cases during the holiday season and beyond.
PAL Offers Free RT-PCR Test for Filipinos Returning from the Middle East
Manila, Philippines – The flag carrier Philippine Air Lines (PAL) offers a free reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test to Filipino workers returning from the Middle East during the Christmas season.
In a Facebook post, PAL said that Filipino Overseas Land Based Workers (OFW) and traveling dependents can take advantage of the trial by arriving in Manila under PAL’s one-stop shop at Terminal 1 of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The service covers OFWs returning from Dubai, Doha, Dammam, Riyadh or Bahrain from December 22, 2020 to January 1, 2021 (departing December 21 to December 31, 2020).
“Plus, with our guaranteed release of test results within 24 hours, you can go home and be with your loved ones in time for the holidays,” the airline said.
To take advantage of this free service, PAL advised OFWs to register as early as three days before departure via this link.

“Passengers who test positive will be supported by the Philippine Quarantine Office for further medical management,” the company said.
PAL also said that sea-based OFWs on these flights will also enjoy free trials with another laboratory testing provider.
PAL will cut 35% of its workforce before the end of the year
Manila, Philippines – The flag carrier Philippine Airlines will lay off some 2,700 employees before the end of the year.
This comprises 35% of its total workforce.
The firm said the move is part of the voluntary and involuntary steps it is taking as part of its restructuring and recovery plans to address the impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
“The reduction is part of a larger recovery and restructuring plan as the flag carrier rebuilds its national and international network amid the global pandemic,” the airline said in a statement.
The firm assured all affected employees that the downsizing will be fair and legal, and promised more help.
PAL is among the airlines that initiated major job-reduction measures to cope with the crisis.
Initially, the airline cut about 300 jobs in February, followed by its fellow airlines Cebu Pacific and Air Asia.
PAL cancels scheduled domestic flights scheduled for August 4-18
MANILA, Philippines – In line with the government-imposed Amended Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ), flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) canceled all its scheduled domestic flights to and from Manila from August 4-18.
Meanwhile, all domestic flights between Clark, Cebu, Davao and cities other than Manila are not affected and will continue to operate, according to PAL.
International flights to and from Manila will continue to operate, subject to additional guidelines from authorities in accordance with quarantine capacity and related arrangements.
Passengers on the affected flights have the option to rebook, refund or convert their ticket to a travel voucher, PAL said.
“We seek the understanding and full cooperation of our passengers in making these changes necessary to comply with government directives and, above all, to support public safety,” the company asked its customers.
