The Mandalorian season 3 release date will likely be 2022. Its creator and showrunner Jon Favreau has shed light on how The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian season 3 will fit together, in terms of a release date. The Boba Fett Book, which is currently in production, will be the next Star Wars series in December 2021. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had previously said that “the next chapter” will be released in December 2021, which which many took to believe as the season of The Mandalorian. 3, but Favreau clarified that he meant “the next show.” Mandalorian season 3 is coming “pretty soon” after The Book of Boba Fett, which given the latter’s premiere in late 2021, suggests we won’t see Mando before 2022.
The Mandalorian: Awakening of the Star Wars Cinematic Universe Season 2 Review
“We wanted to withhold this because we didn’t want to spoil the surprise during Disney’s big announcement of all the shows when Kathleen Kennedy was there, so they let me keep this one a secret,” Favreau told Good Morning America hosts on Monday. “So this is actually separate from season 3 of The Mandalorian. But what we didn’t say in that announcement is that the next show that’s coming up, Kathy said the next chapter, and that will be The Boba Fett Book.
“And then we went into production right after that in season 3 of The Mandalorian, back with the main character we’ve all known and loved. So that will be very soon after that. We’re working on pre-production on that right now, while we’re in production on Boba Fett. “
Also on Monday, Disney unveiled the official logo for The Boba Fett Book and announced the main cast and crew. Temuera Morrison and Ming-Na Wen will return as Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, respectively, as we had assumed. Favreau will serve as executive producer alongside Star Wars veteran Filoni, and Robert Rodriguez, who directed The Mandalorian season 2 episode 6 “Chapter 14: The Tragedy,” in which Morrison returned as Fett.
Favreau also revealed that Filoni is currently writing Ahsoka, another spin-off of The Mandalorian that follows Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), the Jedi we met in The Mandalorian season 2 episode 5 “Chapter 13: The Jedi”, which was written and directed by Filoni. Ahsoka was first featured in 2008 in the movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and later went on to play a role in the animated series of the same name, followed by a major role in Star Wars Rebels.
The Star Wars cinematic universe has grown tremendously since The Mandalorian’s premiere in November last year. In the span of 13 months, we’ve gone from one live-action Star Wars series to eight. In addition to the three mentioned above, there are Andor that follows Diego Luna’s Rogue One character, Obi-Wan Kenobi with Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen, Leslye Headland’s acolyte from Russian Doll, country by Justin Simien from Dear White People, and Rangers of the New Republic (a third Mandalorian spin-off) by Favreau and Filoni.
Boba Fett’s book opens in December 2021 on Disney + and Disney + Hotstar. Mandalorian season 3 will follow “pretty soon” afterward.
