The end of season 2 of The mandalorian left fans with many questions, but none were more urgent than a surprise announcement about something called “The Book of Boba Fett” coming in December 2021. Was it the next season of The mandalorian changing his approach from Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) to the infamous Star Wars bounty hunter? Or was it his own independent series? Without a word of clarification from executive producer Jon Favreau or Lucasfilm, speculation ran high over the weekend of December 19, 2020 about the nature of Fett’s new story.

Fortunately, Favreau appeared in Good morning america during its broadcast on Monday, December 21, to dispel some of the confusion about The book. So let’s take a look at everything we know so far.

It is an independent series

In our look at the season 2 finale, we assume Boba Fett’s book was the next phase of The mandalorian. No Boba Fett series was mentioned in Lucasfilm’s comprehensive Investor’s Day presentation on December 10 and the logo did not appear during the sting scene at the end indicating a new series. But as Favreau explained in GMA, the series was kept out of the presentation to keep up the surprise.

Since it’s a standalone series, we can safely say that the show will star Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, the cloned son of Jango Fett (also Morrison), who may have a strong claim to being Mandalorian even if he’s the apparent heir to the throne of that planet. refuses to accept it. As seen in the Mandalorian Stinger will likely focus on Fett, either taking over Jabba the Hutt’s criminal empire or leveraging his assets for some secret purpose.

Joining him on this new journey will be Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), the mercenary he rescued in The mandalorianFirst season. Seemingly indebted to him, if only for his own code of ethics, the pair will continue on as Fett plans his next move.

And if we can afford some speculation, we imagine the other bounty hunters of The Empire Strikes Back – Dengar, IG-88, Bossk, Zuckuss and 4-LOM – may appear at some point. Also, there may be room to do an episode about Jodo Kast, the impostor Boba Fett who appeared in the Expanded Universe while Fett himself was recovering from his encounter with the Sarlaac.

Now that I think about it, it reveals how he survived his apparent death scene in Return of the Jedi it would also be a strong chapter. Also, you have to wonder how long before Fett’s actions at Jabba’s palace attract the attention of Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), other items on Tatooine, or even the other Hutts.

On the production side, Robert Rodriguez, who directed the episode reintroducing Boba Fett in The mandalorianspace sector – will serve as executive producer with Favreau and the stalwart Star Wars creative Dave Filoni.

It is not a replacement for The mandalorian

As Favreau clarified during his GMA appearance, Fett’s book will come before the third season of The mandalorian, but do not replace it; in fact, Favreau said season three “will follow very soon” Fett’s book in terms of production. Whether or not this means the new season will follow immediately grease in air is anyone’s guess. However, it is quite clear that there will be Mandalorian in 2021.

The year 2022 seems to be the great year for Star Wars on Disney + with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor debuting alongside the third season of The mandalorian. There is also the possibility of at least one other live action Star Wars project to join that group as well.

Along with the recently announced Ahsoka and New Republic Rangers Serie, Boba Fett’s book will take place in the era five or more years later Return of the Jedi. For lack of an official name, we’ll call it the New Republic era. In an echo of early Expanded Universe novels, games and comics, it is a time when the newly established Republic faces a host of backlash from Imperial enclaves and many internal tensions that the Rebel Alliance set aside to combat the Empire.

That problem will probably form the atmosphere of Rangers, but will also take into account grease given that organized crime is a constant in the Star Wars galaxy, as is the inability (or apathy) of the central government to police it. We’ll risk guessing that a more scum and villainy-centric show went independent. grease attractive series for Favreau and Filoni, since they devised the Mandalorian spin-offs: well, assuming the series is just about Fett becoming the godfather of space. As we have already seen, he is a man of his word, and it is possible that the resources of the Hutt crime company are used for some other purpose.

During the Investor Day presentation, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy mentioned The mandalorian, Rangersand Ahsoka it would culminate in an event. Presumably, grease It will also be part of this culmination and we would not be surprised if all this leads to Mandalore’s liberation. As we have seen in The mandalorianBo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) is still trying to free him from the control of the Imperial Remnant, even as most people assume that the planet, as Fett said, “turned to glass”. She is also still trying to be their ruler, which may lead to some conflicts with Din Djarin in the near future.

But if Djarin decides to lead the liberation effort himself, he will no doubt call on Fett to help him. perhaps even offering the blessing of legitimizing him as a Mandalorian. That would be reason enough to break into Jabba’s palace and kill Bib Fortuna.

Furthermore, having made good on his promise to help Djarin get Grogu back, Fett may be acting on his own. Either way it’s clear Boba Fett’s book it will have a lasting impact in this era of the New Republic.

As the next chapter of the New Republic era, Boba Fett’s book opens in December next year. Favreau’s comments on GMA suggests that some filming has started. It is still unclear how long The book will be, although eight episodes is a reasonable expectation; however, as seen with the next Andor, an order of 12 episodes is also possible.
