The Golden State Warriors open their season Tuesday against the Brooklyn Nets. In a game with a few familiar faces, these two teams should generate some entertainment.
The Brooklyn Nets were the story of last year’s offseason, as they signed two superstars. Last season, we only got to see one of them play for the Nets in Kyrie Irving. Kevin Durant, his other well-paid star, was still recovering from the injury he sustained in the 2019 NBA Finals with the Warriors.
This Warriors team could struggle in its first game against a team that has a stacked roster. Not only do the Nets have the two players that everyone knows, but they also have great role players.
Brooklyn has one of the best young shooting duos on his team and an excellent rim protector. Golden State will not have two of its superstars in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green, which could be something to consider.
Klay Thompson did not play in the 2020 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament tear in the 2019 Finals. As Thompson approached the end of his recovery, he reinjured himself.
On the day of the 2020 NBA Draft, the Golden State Warriors learned that Klay Thompson had been seriously injured during training, and he was not looking well. He tore his Achilles tendon and would be out for another full season once again.
This hurt Warriors fans as they were ready to see the backcourt that was once the best in the league. A combo that had not been seen in over a year and was named by many as “the best shooting couple ever.”
To make up for Thompson’s absence, the Warriors came out and made moves this offseason. Bring in Kelly Oubre and write James Wiseman. The two of them may not bring a championship to the Bay Area, but they can make this team entertaining once again.
The Nets-Warriors showdown will also be entertaining, as Brooklyn has some key players to watch out for.
