The local government of Panglima Sugala City in Tawi-tawi handed over loose firearms to members of the Philippine Marine Corps on Saturday, said the Western Mindanao Command (WesMinCom), the unit of the Philippine Armed Forces that fights the terrorism and insurgency in the south. island.
Colonel Arturo Rojas, commander of the Tawi-Tawi Joint Task Force, said the effort “exemplifies the good convergence” between local officials and the military.
The ceremony for the delivery of various firearms and ammunition to the Marine Battalion Landing Team (MBLT) 12 was facilitated by the team’s commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Henry Espinosa, and the Mayor of Panglima Sugala, Nurbert Sahali, WestMinCom said in a statement.
Among the firearms delivered were 15 long weapons, 26 short weapons, two M79 tubes, two M203 tubes, two magazines and 15 ammunition.
“May this gesture of support from the Panglima Sugala local government be a good example for other officials and communities,” said WestMinCom Commander Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr.
“Let’s continue working together to rid communities of loose firearms that we call threatening tools of violence,” Vinluan added.
The firearms and ammunition were placed in the custody of MBLT 12 for documentation, according to WestMinCom.
