MANILA, Philippines – As for the Secretary of the Interior, Eduardo Año, there is no need to investigate Chief Presidential Counsel Salvador Panelo, who was accused of violating health regulations during an alleged videoke session in Makati, noting that COVID-19 protocols were still observed in the establishment.

“There is no need for investigation. This is an isolated incident and Sec. Panelo has already presented his explanation. This is not the usual karaoke event, but a one-time request from some diners for you to sing. The incident occurred in an open air restaurant and the protocols are still being followed, ”Año told INQUIRER.net in a text message, in response to the controversial and viral video of Panelo singing in a Makati restaurant.

However, Año said Panelo was reminded to follow “the strictest minimum health standards and exercise proper discretion as a senior official in the country’s government.”

The Palacio official has already denied that he has violated health protocols, saying that he and other guests observed a physical distance of one meter.

The Department of Health previously announced that public video sessions are discouraged because they can cause a high risk of transmission of SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent of coronavirus disease.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government also called on local government units (LGUs) to pass ordinances banning public video sessions to prevent the spread of the new coronavirus disease.
