Here’s how some families will celebrate the holidays safely but meaningfully

MANILA, Philippines – The “new normal” has brought with it many adjustments to the way we do things, including this season, as family reunions will be held differently to ensure everyone’s safety.
The season also gives way to reflection on the most important things in life, as the gift of presence becomes more important than the wrapped gifts.
Coca-Cola, which has always been a staple for celebrations and happy times, highlights the importance of bonding this season.
Here are some inspiring stories about how happiness comes at special Christmas meal times shared with the most important people.
Find time to be together
Front-line Dr. Fritz Dalida says his family won’t be whole for the first time this Christmas, as his sister Kaye works as a nurse in the Middle East and won’t be able to return home as planned.
“As a healthcare worker, I have been busy with my duty during this pandemic. Since my sister cannot celebrate Christmas with us, I decided to be home with my parents for our Christmas Eve. My sister will be with us through a video call. I think that no matter how busy we are, it is important to find time for family. Being able to create new memories with your loved ones is always a blessing, ”says Dr. Fritz.
Strengthen your faith
Singer, songwriter and actress Karylle shares her thoughts on the current situation and how they have had to adjust.
“I think ‘family is everything’ and I have a deep appreciation for everyone, especially this year,” he says.
Her family will celebrate the holidays with simple joys, she says. A Christmas playlist will be in the background as her husband Yael handles the barbecue while she bakes.
“We can also install the projector and speakers in the garage for Mass! In preparation for Advent, I also signed up for a spiritual retreat. These are not the easiest days, so it is very important to take steps to strengthen our faith, ”shares Karylle.
Being thankful
The Romero family has traditionally celebrated Christmas parties with more than 20 people from their extended family.
Francis Romero says: “My family has decided to give up the usual family gatherings and limit the festivities to our house, which is made up of my parents, my brother and my lola on my mother’s side.”
Christmas Eve will be simpler this time, with just a few of your favorite dishes accompanied as always by frozen Coke, and probably watching a bunch of Christmas movies together.
“Christmas with the family has always been about remembering our victories and being grateful for them, and reviewing all of our struggles and laughing at how we got through them. Christmas will be more meaningful as we understood each other more and we plan to stay this close and open to each other even beyond Christmas and this year, ”shared Francis.
Listen to your loved ones
Artist Kerwin King notes that he won’t be able to be with many of his friends and family this year physically, but he will make sure to hold his kumustahans online.
“My dad, who works abroad, won’t be here for Christmas Eve. It is the first time it has happened in years. So Christmas Eve this year will be with my mother and my cat ”, he smiles.
She adds that Christmas celebrations don’t have to be great. “It is the thought that counts after all. For me, too, given all the crazy things that have happened this year, just being there for them makes things meaningful. Support them, listen to them, and even randomly review them. The best gift you can give a loved one is time and love. No one can give those except you. “
In the Philippine context, where showing that you care can be as simple as asking “Have you eaten?”, Things take a more significant turn this Christmas, as families gather for simpler celebrations to appreciate togetherness even in the Current situation.
Coca-Cola celebrates the true meaning of the season with its holiday packages that come with joyful designs centered on the Filipino Parol as a symbol of hope and a Christmas tune titled “Basta’t Kapiling Ka, Masaya ang Pasko” performed by Sarah Geronimo.
This is to take home the message that if families share even simple meals, they can create meaningful moments together. After all, the best gift we can give our loved ones this season is our time and presence.
