MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines recorded 2,122 additional coronavirus infections on Friday, the largest increase in one day in nearly three weeks.
With the new cases, the country now has a total of 456,562 COVID-19 cases nationwide, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.
The last time the country registered more than 2,000 additional cases was on November 29, with 2,122 infections.
According to DOH’s Daily Case Bulletin, Quezon City had the largest increase in cases with 160, followed by Rizal with 105, Bulacan with 91, Makati City with 83 and Davao City with 79.
A new batch of 778 recoveries was also recorded, bringing the total to 420,666. Meanwhile, 25 were added to the death toll from COVID-19, which is now 8,875.
Only 27,021 or 5.9% of the total cases were active or still recovering from respiratory disease.
Seven duplicates were removed from the total case count. Of these, 5 were recovered cases.
Additionally, 9 cases previously labeled as recovered were reclassified as deaths.
The count does not include the most recent data from four testing labs that did not submit their reports on time, DOH said. [ac]
