MIES (Switzerland) – FIBA, the International Basketball Federation and Smart, the Philippines’ leading mobile service provider, have announced a new global partnership ahead of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The announcement was made today at a virtual press conference organized by Smart, FIBA and Samahang Basketbol Ng Pilipinas (SBP).
This four-year partnership will run until December 31, 2023. Under the terms of the agreement, Smart obtains exclusivity in the telecommunications category worldwide.
The association provides key commercial rights in all FIBA competitions, including the Men’s and Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournaments, the FIBA Men’s and Women’s Continental Cups, the FIBA Youth World Cups, the 2022 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup and FIBA’s summit event, the FIBA Basketball World. Cup in 2023.
Smart will play a pivotal role in the run-up to and during the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup, using its latest Smart 5G technology. The FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 will be held for the first time in three nations, the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, from August 25 to September 10, 2023. The Group Stage will be held in all three countries. hosts, with the Final Phase to follow in the Philippine capital of Manila. FIBA and Smart will work together to create a wide range of exciting experiences for both athletes and fans around the world.
Present at today’s virtual press conference announcement were Manuel V. Pangilinan, president of PLDT, president emeritus of SBP and member of the central board of FIBA; Alfredo S. Panlilio, president and CEO of Smart and president of SBP; and FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.

Pangilinan.
