BANGUED, Abra, December 14 (PIA) – The residents of Abrenea showed their support and solidarity with those living with the human immunodeficiency virus / acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV / AIDS) by participating in the celebration of World Awareness Day on AIDS 2020.
The event was highlighted with a red ribbon and candle lighting ceremony led by the Bangued local government unit, the Abra Provincial Government (PGA) and the Provincial Health Office.
“Global solidarity is a shared responsibility. It is not only the responsibility of a certain entity or institution, the Department of Health, the Provincial Health Office, local government units, but also of everyone. All sectors of society, already whether governmental or non-governmental, we must work together to prevent, control or stop the transmission of HIV / AIDS. We show the world that we are all in this together, doing something, providing support and treatment or medical services to people living with HIV / AIDS, “said Dr. Lilibeth B. Martin, Provincial Coordinator for HIV / AIDS.
He lectured on HIV 101 addressing the prevention and modes of transmission of HIV / AIDS. He encouraged everyone to join together to prevent or stop the transmission of HIV / AIDS, especially in the province.
According to the HIV / AIDS surveillance data presented by the Provincial Coordinator of Disease Surveillance, Laila Bernal, there were 76 cases of HIV / AIDS in Abra with six deaths reported from 1984 to the present. This year alone, eight new cases were registered.
Meanwhile, Councilor Rowena Bringas, Sangguniang Bayan Health President, led the inauguration of the condom dispenser located in front of the Bangued City Hall.
